What is a parenting plan?

In each family law case involving minor children and a divorce/separation, the Court will require parents to complete and include a parenting plan with their paperwork. Although parents may agree to terms outside of the parenting plan, having a plan on file serves as “fall back” in instances where parents disagree on parenting time arrangements. Additionally, the creation of a parenting plan allows a child’s needs to be considered, but also seeks to remove them from parental conflict by ensuring they are not left in a position of having to choose between either parent.

Where can I get help with my parenting plan?

There are many resources available online with sample parenting time schedules, as well as family law attorneys and child custody mediators that may assist parents in creating one. You may also utilize any of the three options listed below if you are needing assistance.
